Suburban Life Near the River


Dear Laura,

I had just written to you yesterday about how we occasionally see a deer in the neighborhood. Here’s proof...

Around 5:40 this morning, I looked out my front window and saw two deer meandering up the sidewalk, past my house. I told my daughter and we grabbed our cameras and headed out in pursuit of the deer.

We attempted a stealthy approach, but Of course, the deer saw us and immediately stepped lively, quickly increasing the distance between them and us.

My daughter exclaimed, “I can’t believe we are out chasing deer in our bathrobes and barefoot! “

I had to zoom in to get even this photo…poor as it is.

A Serious Diet


Yes. It is time for that difficult life changing decision. Today is the start of a 13-week quest to lose 15 pounds.

I am going to document this process, for better or worse, in my Diary.

Someone said that you’ve got to have a plan to lose weight. Was that you?

Well, I’ve got a plan.

My plan:
  • Eat 1300 calories a day
  • Use a pedometer to measure my steps and encourage me to get out walking (10,000 steps is supposedly equal to between 4 or 5 miles, depending upon the person)
  • Do 20-Minute Workout Exercise at least 3 times a week
  • Drink lots of water or herb tea (without sweetener)
  • Relax and enjoy some fun foods on Saturdays
  • Weigh myself once a week

I may make some changes to that plan as I find out if and how it is working for me.

To an Old Friend


Dear Friend,

I miss you and think of you often.

I took this photo yesterday and made it into a greeting card. It made me think of you and the cards I used to send to you. You can imagine receiving this card in the mail as you read this letter.

Spring days are lovely, cool, and full of the freshness of life. The garden is well underway.

We are all so busy here…some getting ready for tests and high school diplomas…some applying and registering for college this fall…some looking a new job or summer employment…some preparing for graduating from college.

Summer will be a welcome change from studies.

Today, a friend is coming at lunchtime. We will have our visit on the deck by the pool. I want to show her Bill’s garden.
